27-Aug: We find a baby hedgehog

On the afternoon of 27-August, we were alerted by a repeated, loud squawking in our yard  to discover a baby hérisson/hedgehog/egel in leaves at the foot of our lime tree. She had been squawking for hours and was clearly asking for help. No mama around, so we took her in and did our best to give her the chance to grow and flourish.

A quick trip to the vet yielded some lait maternilisée (milk for kittens and other small mammals and the advice to keep her warm. We guessed she was about 3 weeks old when we found her. She weighed 130g.

Here she is snuggled up to a bottle of hot water. (That's an empty, plastic 33cl coke bottle wrapped in a towel.)

And here's a little film of her getting fed. (Sorry, have to link to Facebook for these, since blogspot isn't handling videos well lately.)
